About Attorney Phan Nguyen

With over a decade of experience, Attorney Phan Nguyen practices Immigration, Family Law, and Estate Planning, and has helped more than 2,000 clients build more secure futures for themselves and their families.

A Personal Connection to Immigration

Phan and his parents first came to the United States as refugees. Their early attempt to settle here didn't work out, but the family later found their footing, and in the late 1980s they were able to build a new life in the U.S. That experience shapes how Phan approaches every case: he tries to understand each client's situation the way he'd want his own parents to be understood, with compassion, fairness, and respect.

Education and Early Career

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 2015 — where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the law review — Phan worked as an associate at the Law Office of Jasmit Dhalwal, building a strong foundation in litigation. In 2020, he briefly explored starting a firm with a few colleagues, an experience that helped point him toward something he'd wanted all along: a practice built to make quality legal representation accessible and affordable to individuals and families who might otherwise struggle to find it. That practice became the Law Office of Phan Nguyen, PLLC.

Credentials and Community Involvement

Phan is admitted to practice in the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas — admission that allows him to file writs, including habeas corpus petitions, directly in federal court. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), and the State Bar of Texas. He and his team maintain a 4.9 rating on Google, and Phan takes on two to five pro bono cases each year, most referred through the community he serves.

Why He Does This Work

One case has stayed with him in particular: early in his career, he represented a survivor of human trafficking and, three years later, helped her obtain her green card. It's the kind of outcome that reminds him why he does this work — the lasting difference legal representation can make in someone's life.

Outside the Office

Phan is fluent in Vietnamese and English, which he says has helped him build stronger relationships with clients. He's also, by his own admission, a pretty serious fan of trading card games — something that surprises people who only know him from the courtroom. He describes himself as composed and approachable, someone who takes his responsibilities seriously without taking himself too seriously. Most weekends, he's ice skating or doing arts and crafts with his daughter, and not infrequently serving as unofficial administrative assistant for her playdates.

"I enjoy talking to people and getting to know their stories," Phan says. "Over the past ten years, I've worked with people from so many different backgrounds, and it's always refreshing to hear a new case and the experiences that come with it. What keeps me going is knowing my work lets me help people — and that it makes my family proud."
